THE WORKSHOP’S LOGIC
The Workshop is organized around the discussion of papers identifying key philosophical, methodological and measurement challenges, with time for additional conversations. The 18 papers will be distributed throughout the workshop in parallel sessions, where participants can engage in in-depth conversation based on paper presentations, formal feedback, and open discussion of the issues that arise. Each paper session will be followed by 45- minute plenaries.
During the three days, we will “enter” the workshop discussions by categorizing the papers through two different lenses: by “topics” and by “analytical standpoint.” On days 1 and 2 the paper sessions are organized around “topics” as follows: Philosophical Underpinnings, Relational Dimensions, Public Leadership, and Networks. On day 3 (Take 2), we will have three simultaneous discussions organized around “analytical standpoint” (locating the paper’s methodological concern within the analytical ladder of abstraction): From Epistemology to Theoretical Lens; From Theoretical Lens to Methodology and Research Design; and From Methodology and Research Design to Methods/Instruments/Tools.
In the final session of the workshop, on Day 3, the papers presented will explore analytical levels of abstraction. To explore these levels of abstraction and the papers’ categorization along methodological concerns, Take 2.
